Enhancement of Capacity Building on Geothermal Exploration Technology

Cooperation Between Indonesia - Japan

On 14 -17 April 2009 was held meeting between Center for Geological Resources, Geological Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which discussed technical cooperation in enhancement of capacity building on geothermal exploration technology and visit to geothermal field (PT. Pertamina Geothermal), Kamojang, Garut.

This event was presented by 5 persons from JICA and 10 persons from Center for Geological Resources.

The goal of this event is to enhance human resources competency/expert at Center for Geological Resources on capacity building of science and technology in the field of geothermal, either competency on exploration/field survey or in data processing.

By enhancing human resources ability at Center for Geological Resources, is hoped that Geological Agency (Center for Geological Resources) can give services of geothermal resources potency to stakeholders for the agenda of development acceleration of geothermal power electrical energy, as according to President Regulation No. 5 2006 about National Energy Policy that has stipulated in 2025 geothermal energy hopefully can donate 9500 MW.

The results are hoped from this event are:

  • To make geothermal database with Geographic Information System (GIS) that can load integrated geological data, geochemistry, and geophysics.
  • To enhance ability of expert in geothermal resources exploration.
  • To enhance ability of expert in modeling and defining of geothermal resources.
